Ok, this is in process, less than half done, but I'm just wondering, do you
think this effect is going to work or should I give it up now?
It's (obviously I hope) a paper tiger.

i think its looking sweet so far.. may need more definition around the outer edge of the tiger, but then again you said its less than half done so it might not

Better with natual whiskers (left) or black whiskers (right)?

natural, by far... the depth that they carry with the lighting and shadowing and shading is awesom

Yes, natural gets my vote as well. It contrasts the background better, giving it a better look.

Funny, I like the natural whiskers on it's nose, and the black over it's eyes. The natural one's over it's eyes tend to distract from the piercing stare.
