CPU Upgrade

I decided that I wanted to build a new server. I just bought an Asus P2L97-DS (dual slot 1) on eBay for $30. The max this board supports is 333mhz and I already have two slot 1 300mhz CPU's but, I was thinking about getting a couple of slockets for it. I'm concerned about if the slockets would work if I bought two 766mhz Celerons. I know the FSB is alright because they both have an FSB of 66mhz but, what about the multiplier? Or does it not matter because the slockets would be in there?

If this configuration was to work, would the heatsink in the attachment keep the Celerons cool enough? I can't remember how hot they run.

Thanks.

I dont think celerons work on dual setups.

and some slockets might not but I know that some do...lol..slockets are sort of non-standard in some ways.....I have a slocket that has a jumper for single/dual.

I have a slotket that has the same jumper that allows for dual or single CPU. Depends on the slotket and the board setup.

I've seen a few auctions/BIN on eBay for a slocket that's called the "Super Slocket III" that allows you to select dual or single CPUs. My main concern is will it work with those particular CPUs. What are the factors that determine how it run? I just need to know before I buy it that way I don't waste $70.

pretty sure that celerons WONT do dual unless there is some hack out there for it....also it isnt guarenteed that any certain board will even work with slockets..cuz sometimes it is a finnicky thing to try.

The slokets I've used did not have any way to adjust the multiplier. So I was limited by the available multiplier settings on the motherboard. YMMV

I googled for dual Celerons and found a good article on Ars Technica about it. It said they would work with a hack or if you bought an MSI slocket. Elroy's comment helped out quite a bit.

I found a manual about the board from Asus and looked through it. It seems like the only way to adjust the multiplier/FSB is on the board through the jumpers. It says that the highest the multiplier goes is 5.5x and the highest FSB that it can get is 100mhz.

So it seems the Celerons wouldn't work anyway with a hack or that MSI slocket because the mutliplier can't get up to 11.5x....I mean, it would but I wouldn't get the full performance.

My guess is that it can support dual PIII 550mhz....what do you all think?
