Sounds like you allowed 2K to reformat the disk, in which case you cannot use the recovery disk. If you fdisk the hard drive, and reformat , boot from a win98 floppy, then copy the i386 cab files from the recovery disk onto the clean drive to c:\w98, then run setup from the w98 directory you might be able to recover.

Try running the manufacturer's hard drive diagnostic disk to see if the drive has any problems.

If no problems or if the the disk can fix any then you should be able to partition and format from there.

Here are some hardware links to some sites.

Bill

Edit: BTW, I just noticed the one link is dead as the forum has shut down. Google your hard drive and you should be able to easily find a site.

Now to edit my web page.

just get a w98se boot floppy from www.bootdisk.com

run fdisk and "delete all non-DOS partitions"

boot from the boot floppy--type in "fdisk"..it will ask you a question so answer (y) for yes.

then it will give you a menu and you should choose (3) delete a partition and then (4) Delete non dos partition

---

then try your IBM recovery disk

you boot off the floppy like I said....when you boot off the floppy it boots you into MS-dos.

The only thing u might need to do is set your bios to boot from the floppy first
