I have a 9800 pro and it runs HOT!

I have a positive flow set of fans 9blowing cool air in) , and they exhaust at the power supply where I have a temperature probe. (an indoor/outdoor thermometer)

Before I pulled my Matrox 32 meg it ran about 12 degrees over room temp.

My ATI 9800 pro at this instant is:

Room temp = 82.8
Exhaust = 105.8

Can't someone write a driver that turns it down when the computer is not in use and goes into stand by?

I am probably asking for the impossible, but it makes sense to me.

why dont you get one of those big bulky (yet cool looking) gpu coolers:

*just wanna say that i have very little knowledge about cooling, etc.. but i think that would work.. wouldnt it? has a heatpipe too..

I look the artic cooling VGA silencer. There is 3 different revisions to this thing so make sure you get the right one for you card. Oh, and it will take up the PCI slot below your card as well.

Send a message via AIM to butch81385
but it would still keep his case at the same temp. its not that the 9800 is overheating, its that the 9800 is causing the case to be extremely hot (am i correct?) so putting the gpu cooler will only help get the heat off the the gpu faster, but it still sits in the case... what he need is a gpu cooler with a pci slot fan so that the heat exits the case at at the 9800.

Butch, you are right on. As you know heat = electricity bill. If I am on standy, or the monitor is off, why can't the card detect it and reduce it's power consumption.

The issue is it is heating up my office too much! (It's fine in the winter! )
