You definitely should be able to open it back up. What kind of error are you getting?

How big is the file?

only like 26k, says it's not a valid photoshop document, every time i save though a thing comes up saying i can turn off the maximize feature whenever but that it's not recommended

the image is fine as i opened it up in windows pic and fax viewer then resaved it as a bmp, then opened it in photoshop

Ok, got it figured out.

The file is a GIF image. Somehow, probably just a simple oversight, you saved the image in the GIF format but you gave it a PSD extention. That's why PS couldn't understand the file.

If you rename it to lotto6.gif you'll see PS will open it no problem. I'm sure it was simple mistake, but just for the record, you shouldn't be saving things in GIF format unless there's an explicit need for it. GIF is a low color format, as thus it's an extremely poor choice to save images in.

With the Save For Web feature you can produce images in the following formats: GIF, JPG, PNG-8, PNG-24, & WBMP.

GIF - Only 256 colors. Supports 1-bit transparency. Use only if needed.

JPG - Infinite colors. No transparency. It's compression is lossy, meaning it damages the image when you save using this format, although it's often not visible. Probably want to use this format most of the time.

PNG-8 - 256 colors. Basically same as the GIF format but with improved tranparency.

PNG-24 - Infinite colors. Alpha channel for gradient tranparency. This is the best image format available, bar none. Use this when quality matters.

WBMP - 2 colors, black/white. This is used for producing images that will work on 2 color (old LCD type) screens. Use only if needed.
