Painting case - help

OK obviously this is a noob thing.

I've cut the window and blowhole on a discount midtower oldstyle antec case (no door; old style alienware grill) I got cheap.

I primed and sanded the heck out of it, smooth at 400 grit.

Problem rose when Iwent to paint it. I take my time, try to cover, but there are dry overspray areas in the paint and I have to sand them out and start over no matter what. Otherwise it looks kind of stripey.

I'm always painting in the sun, good and warm, is that the problem or is it me? I hold the can good and close, tight overlapping layers, using one stage auto paint. Too expensive for endless re-sanding down so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks; this seems to be the only forum I know where folks are still painting or talking about painting

You shouldn't hold the spray paint can close, you want to hold it about a foot to 6 inches away and move back and forth. You want thin layers, because you can always go back later and put another layer on.

Here's another thing to consider....the bright sunny warm day is going against you. Your better bet is to paint in the shade, on a warmish day. What's most likely happening the way you descibe it is that the paint is drying so fast that by the time you get done with the painting, the first parts are almost dry.

Depending on what you have available for space, paint the case IN the garage/shed/whatever and THEN bring it outside to dry ( as long as it isn't a windy day, nor the time of year the trees and pretty flowers start pollinating or dropping their seeds, otherwise...bad news! )

I did the exact opposite, i painted outside, and then let dry inside since it is a constant temperature and dry environment.

Definately paint in the garage or at least out of the sun. A "mild" rubbing or buffing compound should remove overspray.
