help w/ NIC and drivers

I just formatted my hard drive, and I've been trying to install all the drivers and everything, but I'm having problems with my NIC.

Local Area Connection 9 - A network cable is unplugged.

I keep getting this message, and I know that all my cables are fine, and they are all plugged in.

The NIC is a Davicom DM9102AF

I'm running Windows XP
I've tried installing the generic drivers that come with Windows XP, as well as drivers that I've found on the internet... but everytime i get them installed, that message pops up.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Hi,

Is your PC actually hooked to any others or onto a network at the moment?

Cheers

Ive got 2 computers going through a router, then to a cable modem. My 2nd computer is working fine...
I thought it might be a problem with the router, so I connected the computer directly to the modem, and had the exact same problem.

Hi,

How many of those little Network icons have you got in the Sys Tray?

I get that warning all the time if My Bluetooth is unplugged when I am on the wired one at home or when I am away and using the Bluetooth and Cellphone.

Another thought.

I assume you have had this NIC working on this PC before with XP.
Have you been into Device Manager and had a look to see if there are any problems shown there?
Cheers

yes under device manager, it says the NIC is working properly. There is only 1 of those icons on the systray. I did have this working before i formatted the hard drive.

Hi,

Can you try swapping the cable that connects the one that works to the one that don't work and see if that clears the problem?

In My Network Places how many Network Places do you see(ie) are you showing more than 1 LAN?

Cheers

I swapped the cables, and with the cable that is working, i still get the same problem... so there is nothing wrong with the original cable... and in my network places i only see 1 LAN

the only thing left i can think of, is either none of the drivers i've tried work... or my NIC is broken... it just seems a little odd that one minute my NIC would be working fine, then after I format my HDD, it stops working.

Hi,

You will probably have to either add a network place or use the wizard to join your existing Network in order to get it to go.

Cheers
