Systems Laptop DVD to TV - basic help needed!

Hi all,

I'd like to connect my laptop to my TV so that I could watch DVD's on my TV. I need some very basic help with this, as I'm not sure what cables etc I need. (I've had a look at some other threads on similar topics, but they're a bit above me.)

There's a "TV out" socket on the back of my laptop that looks like it would take a coxial plug. I had a look on the Toshiba website, and it speaks about using an "S-video cable". What is this? How would I go about getting one? It looks like a TV ariel cable, but I've tried that and it didn't work, so presumably its something different?

I've managed to find the control panel setting to change my output from the laptop to the TV, so its really the hardware side of things I need help with - cables, adaptors, etc. If someone could tell me what's require I would be very grateful!

I'm in the UK, but my TV can handle PAL and NTSC videos (its a TV and VCR-combined, so I don't know if that's the TV part or the video part). My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite S1800-400 with Windows ME.

Thanks,
Ellie

all the cables and connectors you need. if there is a store local to you, then take your lappy along and show them. the connector sounds like an rca phono socket. you would also need audio leads from your soundcard to your tv. s-video looks more like the mouse and keyboard ps/2 connectors, and both your tv and lappy would need an s-video socket on them.
