burning to dvd's on a 8x burner

I have this question concerning burning dvd's using a 8x drive. For the drive to write to 8x dvd must the dvd media be 8x compatiable or can just using the regular 4x dvd media be ok?

4X should be fine. It'll just go at 4X.

To write at 8X, you need 8X media...

Some people with 8X burners have reported the ability to burn good quality 4X media at 8X, but I have not found any 4X media that burn at a rate higher than 4X with my Pioneer 107, having tried Ritek, Memorex and Verbatim. 8X media are still too expensive.

Send a message via AIM to butch81385
and besides, 4x is still pretty quick anyway (not like a 4x cd burner).... i can pop out a dvd in under 15 minutes on my 4x. now encoding a dvd takes a while....

Of course, we all said the same thing about 4X CD burners.
