computer starts unexpectedly??

oh hello there,

weird though for me or it is normal anyway i do not know, but my pc Windows XP switched on unexpectedly when i accidently touched some buttons on keyboard, somehow this happens already 3-4 times unexpectedly. i didn't press the swicthed on button on the cpu with electric power plug on. i was playing with another pc, when i sometimes pressed the keyboard besides me & the power is on!

someone experience this? know this?

and, to add more info, i tried each time plug power on and press the keyboard, not everytime it starts, only at either random time it starts or on a certain number of time i put plug power on.

??

Sounds to me the system has been put into hibernation rather than shut down. Both hibernate and shut down are essentially power-off states. Are you sure you are powering down the system from within Windows?

oh hello "osprey4",

yes, i am quite sure it not hibernation state because the incident happens fresh after i put the power plug on without pressing the switch on button. i only use another pc that besides it. while playing with the pc, i just accidenlty touched the keyboard to it (that belongs the the pc that power on unexpectedly). both pcs use same power plug but if i didn't press the switc on button of that rather 'weird' how come it can power on without my knowledge?? only after i simply press the buttons do the screen pops out and i know by then the power is on.

and absolutely not 'stand by' mode either cause fresh just plug in the power plug.

oh, even though hibernate state there are lights over cpu which definetly can be noticed by eyes and only the screen go black.

thanks.

that sounds like a Bios setting at least offered in some AOPEN motherboards

I agree with DVNT1, it sounds like you have the "power on by keybord" option set in the BIOS, there are also options for powering up via modem, LAN, USB, etc...check the BIOS to see if any of these are switched on.

Definitely BIOS setting. I have it set so that when I type "power" on my keyboard, the computer will turn on. It's a wireless keyboard, so it acts like a remote control.

oh hello 'DVNT1',

thanks for your interest to my question about this pc. well, i use ASUS P4V533-MX-UAYZ motherboard. i don't know what is Bios setting and never ask the pc salesman to do any special setting for me to this pc. will you explain the setting for me please?

i might only concern about the security of this pc about data transfer without my knowledge, nothing else.

i set this pc to no internet and use 'this' pc (the one i am using now typing to you here) that sits besides it for internet purpose.

will someone help me on this?

for what purpose is such Bios setting for the user?

thanks.

oh hello there,

1. how the check whether i turned on the Bios setup?

2. this is a keyboard with wire plug behind the cpu

3. i didn't type 'power'. i believe the pc starts when i struck any button. from my experience, i simply struck the area 'Enter', the braket sign, the opening conversation sign, the backward delete button etc around the area.

Please read your manual for details on BIOS.

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...Name=P4V533-MX

The keyboard related setting is in there under 2.5.5 APM Configuration
