How to disable built in firewall WIHTOUT dmz?

Hi my friend is complaing that his modem has a built in firewall and he can't download at full speed in bit torrent, host games on battlenet, and other stuff. We are using a normal router and we don't know if DNZ exists on non-wireless connection. I've searched around but most of you people were using DNZ or forwarding ports but we would be VERy pleased if we could just GET RID of the firewall. We're not afraid of hackers we don got anything for them to hack we have everything backed up and so on.

Oh and can anyone clear this for me? Is modem and router the same? My friends always say modem and router together or just mixing them together and i'm confused when ppl say change settings in you router but i can't change any settings on my modem and does a modem even have a firewall? I don't really understood him when he said he has firewall on his modem. Thanks

sorry my thread is a bit confusing i'll clear it up a bit.
1st:
Person using modem without router says he gets yellow light when downloading from BT and can not host games on B.NET which obviously sounds like firewall. BUT how can modem have firewall?

2nd: Another friend has the same settings as the 1st one except he uses a router to share his connection. He has fireall on the non-wireless router and don't know anything about DNZ or port forwarding, the same goes with me.

thanks

some routers have modems built in. but they are not that popular.

so most likely your friend problem is the router.

please list the model of the router so we can further help you.

i never really heard of a modem having a firewall.

is your friend running xp? i know they have a built in firewall for that os.
