Windows XP vs Windows ME

Hi, what is the best OS to use. I mainly play games and was wondering if I should upgrade to XP. Would there be much improvement once upgraded?

Yes, there is a huge improvement. I used to use WinME for gaming...I now use XP...it is great! It runs smoother and the games seem to run better!

WinME has boatloads more problems than WinXP has with games. I've been using XP and so far it's played every game fine.

It depends. No matter how much people tout XP and "compatibility mode", there are some old apps and games that just will not work. There is some old hardware that will not work, and obviously, there are lots of old drivers that have not been upgraded for older hardware. You must run the Windows XP Upgrade Advisor to determine where you will have problems.

I am still running ME on one machine because the upgrade would cost me at least $200 in hardware and software upgrades (on top of the price of XP).

A little more info would allow us make a more informed response:
1) Are you having any problems/issues with your current WinMe setup?
2) What are your hardware specs, specifically CPU type/speed, amount of ram, video card, available HD free space
3) Any legacy/older hardware peripherals, like web cams, microsopes, joysticks, etc.? Would help to have specs on these too.
4) Do you run any legacy Windows/DOS games? Like osprey4 mentioned, some games just will not run (or install) in XP/W2K, even under "compatability mode."
