Proper Monitor Calibration

I have a Dell system that had a perfectly.. no.. brilliantly calibrated () monitor. I recently reformatted the hard drive and lost the calibration settings. I now, for the life of me, cannot properly calibrate this monitor to anything even close to acceptable.

It is my intention to continue doing graphic design work on this system, but I cannot do so until this calibration issue is fixed. I thought I could do a reasonable job just by eye, but that obviously is not possible. Any idea what the best way to do this is?

If you need any more info - just ask.

Thanks!

Brandon

Got Photoshop?

Monitor turned on more than 30 minutes.

Display properties set to 24 or 32 bit

Remove highly patterned backgrounds from your desktop

Control Panel>Adobe Gamma

Use the step by step Wizard

Save the profile by date, update as monitor ages..
