Systems Slow loading web pages

Hello!

My computer is installed with XP Pro (not SP1) and I have recently had problems accessing web pages IE 6. The pages do eventually load but the can take up to 30 seconds to load a complex page like you would find in these forums.

I have installed and tried Mozilla and FireFox and they have exactly the same problem. The network connection is running at full speed and downloads are working correctly and the connection runs perfectly on my other PC which is on the same connection.

Out of interest, I have put in my old PCI network card but this is making no differece, I am uisng the oboard LAN on my motherbaord (Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.0)

All browsers load web pages that are stored on the hard disk very fast as they should, CPU usage is not excessive.

Any ideas? This is going to drive my crazy if it's not sorted soon!

Thanks in advance for all your wonderful help!

Peter

maybe theres some junk program using all the bandwidth. do you have some sort of protection? (antivirus, firewall)
If you dont I'd say get AVG and Zonealarm.

My system is running Norton AV 2003 which is fully updated all the time and I regulary run a full scan. I have allready tried adaware and pest patrol and they have not found anything for ages.

It is not the bandwith that is being used and downloads work fine and my connection monitor only shows a tiny amount of data flowing when I stop any P2P programs.

I have set the Lock in Zone Alarm Pro to pass the lock only on IE 6.0 and makes no difference.

What's your network look like? Behind a router? ICS? Are there other comps on the network? Is it slow on the other comps?

You can get more help if you give out some details.

Internet connection is 150 kbps cable modem conneted to a Bekin Internet gateway and then shared between two computers.

The other computer seems to load the pages fine. Transfer between computers is as quick as normal ( aprox 80 - 90 % of 100Mbps)

Firewalled by Zone Alarm pro and also the firewall in the router.

I have tried the DMZ and makes no difference. The actual throughput of the connection speens to be up to spec. On a download I get around 18 Kb / sec. It's just that web pages do not load very quickly.

for example www.tvtv.co.uk takes about 30 - 40 seconds to load. The other comp takes about 5 seconds!

have you tried a different network cable?
Plugged into a different port on the router?

I would suspect it being that computers software and check for any viruses, trojans, adware, etc. Have you tried disabling the firewall on that comp?

Maybe cookies or other temporary internet files are slowing it down. Have you tried deleting stuff like that?

He is the strange thing... It's all working perfectly now with no modifications! I don't know what I did but it seems to be working.

Just to answer the other posts...

vass - Yes, tried both.

jl123 - Done all of those, even disabled all running software.

Bingo - I have set IE to use just 32 Mb of temporary internet files. Cookies were deleted just in case but made no difference.
