Is the 9700 Pro Still Good?

i have an ati radeon 9700 pro and i got it for christmas 2003, so pretty recently and im so amazed with its graphic abilities and capabilities of showing games at their best, although many have came to be better then it recently i.e. radeons 9800,pro,xt and nvidia 5900 5950 and now the 6800, ultras, im still wondering when half-life 2 and doom 3 come out will it be able to perform these next generation graphic engines with percision and beauty?i think so and i hope so, im also wondering if anybody thinks that its still up there on the vpu chain of good cards or these new games will kicks its butt and its useless now. thanks for the info

I think its a great video card that you have and I dont think you need a upgrade to a Radeon 9800 or a Nvidia 5900, or all the others you mentioned. Its up to you though, but I think you will waste your money in upgrading since the power you will recieve with an other video card is not worth the money you will have to spend. Just my thoughts on this.

9700 pro will be good until at least next year. Its only like 10% slower than a 9800, so its more than enough. HL2 and D3 will probably be able to stress it in some scenes. Worth upgrading to a 6800? Not yet. At least wait until ATI debuts and we can compare the X800vs6800.

Its a great card for the money. If you dont mind buying one that isnt offically produced by ATI (such as powercolor or saphire) you can get one for around 180 dollars. Much better than comparable cards in price such as some of the 9600 XTs

well thats was about what i was hoping for, also i wasn't thinking about buying a new one, although i do agree it will probably be outdated by next year, but think of it this way people are still using tnt2 64 cards and how old are those?

I'm running a AiW 9700 pro still runs halo at max settings without any gliching. Currently I'm modding a socket A heatsink to put on for better cooling and OCing. I will most likely pick up one of the higher end cards this summer or fall.

Still a good card IMO.

Prices were quickly looked up today via NewEgg only:
(I'm buying a new one today or tomorrow)

** edit ATI 9800 Pro (OEM, BAREBONE) is $175 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...02-268R&depa=0 **
