If you check, most DVD players will warn you that you have a limited number of changes left until the region you last change it to becomes permanent.

I don't know if there's a hack...

EDIT: Is this a Sony Vaio notebook dvd player?

Look for a program called DVD Genie. Use Google

I think there's two hacks you need: one for windows and one for your DVD drive firmware. I don't remember the name of either, so just do a Google search.

It's also a good idea to update the firmware first. Just go to the manufacturer's website.

EDIT: Oh, wait! Is this just a stand-alone DVD player? If it is, then I have no idea. Above instructions are for DVD drives only.

Hi,

This is what he has got.

http://www.sony.com.my/prod.asp?model=632

I think there would have been plenty of warnings prior to it locking up. The trick to unlocking the Drive itself is determining whose drive it is anyway. It may be mounted in a Sony Notebook but ya can be pretty sure it wasn't made by Sony.

Just for example I have a VAIO PCG FRV26 and the CDRW/DVD Drive says it's a QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-241. I did a Google on it and found a lot of stuff that points to it being a Matshita Drive

You might be able to get some info about unlocking here

http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=23

Once you get it unlocked you might want to try this

or this

Cheers

Your dvd drive should be now set to the last region you switched to. Therw are 2 ways around this.

1)
flash your drive to a region free (or rpc1) bios and use a program such as dvd genie. Use this site to see if there is a region free bios for your drive

2)
you can get something like DVD region free which will allow you to make any rpc2 (region locked) drive as a region free one without flashing the bios. NB this will only work in windows.

so deal with the software and the firmware. How do you deal with Windows?

Hi,

This is not a Windows issue in itself. It invloves software that runs under windows and the firmware of the drive( hardware)

Cheers
