Sound card problem
As some of you know, I replaced the mobo and psu of my htpc.
The computer didn't want to startup after that so I went and reinstalled windows.
Now I ran into a problem I want to solve quickly.
Info:
wxp sp1, dx9b
terratec aureon sky 5.1 driver ver 5.1.2600.14
After I install the soundcard, I can no longer (well couldn't from the start because there was no soundcard) listen to mp3's, wavs or anything. Winamp freezes when I press the play button, it changes to play mode but stays at 00:00, and if I close it, it will remain running in the background.
wxp says everything is fine with the card, and it's control panel launches nicely.
I get a constant hiss/crack/pop from the speakers currently connected to it.
avi files play nicely, though I don't hear sound.
windvd does the same as winamp, opens up but freezes shortly after. And again, if I close it, it stays in the background.
I tested the soundcard on a w2k computer, and it worked flawlessly.
I'd like to try out some other driver ver than the 2600.14, but can't find any older versions.
Of course I'm open to any suggestions that would let me solve this problem.

Terratec doesn't have any real support. Their faq is about 10 generic questions, no forum, no kb, the manual only refers to the faq for troubleshooting.
When I get home, I will try and see if I have older drivers on my other computer, or if the drivers on the cd supplied with the card has any working ones...
//edit:
If the older drivers refuse to work, I'll give their email support a shot. Have bad experiences about that kinda support though I've never received a reply from any company I've emailed for support.

Are the drivers you installed for XP or 2000?
I've had sound cards that are supposed to be compatable with XP (including drivers) but had problems with XP's SP1.
Never did get it to work right, ended putting a Santa Cruz in.

The drivers are for 98/me/w2k/xp.
I tried the older drivers (2600.11), but they produce the same thing. I think it goes into infinite loop right when it processes the first sound, because the clicking sound coming from the speakers sounds alot like clicking on folder in windows.
The card worked in the xp computer fine before reinstall.
I just emailed terratecs support.. But it seems they want a registration number, which I don't have, and will never have.
Let's see if they respond to my mail at all.
Think I'll ghost that xp install I have now, install w2k on it, and then ghost the xp back if terratec responds.

Have you tried "sfc /scannow" at the command prompt? Since it was working before, it seems to be a problem with Windows itself and not the cards drivers.

Before reinstall it was working, don't think system files have much to do with it after two reinstalls |

Installed w2k on the computer, same thing. Except it doesn't go in infinite loop, more like 100x loop.
Perhaps the case is shorting or something.
//edit:
Could be an incompatibility with epox and terratec though...
Guess I'll try and update the bios, if that doesn't help. I'm going to be extremely annoyed
