Help turning on 5.1

Ok I have my logitech z-680's hooked up to my DVD player, PS2, and XBOX. Anyways I have gone in and (in the xbox) changed it so it is using dolby digital but yet I can't tell a difference in the sound like on Halo. Is there something I need to do on the z-680's? I am using Digital out for my connection. Also I have the Matrix Revolutions and I wanted to watch that in 5.1 but I don't know if my DVD player is set for it. I go to audio and I see:

Digital Output: PCM or Bitstream
DTS: Off or On
Dynamic Compression: On or Off
PCM Down Sampling: On or Off

I don't know if it is maybe already in 5.1 or what... Is there a setting for it on the pod for the speakers? Stereo, Stereo x2, Dolby Music, Dolby Movie...

TY Guys

BTW DVD player is Samsung DVD-V3500

In your games, I don't think you'll hear true 5.1 sound unless the game is specificaly coded for it.

I belive you set up the sound options with the movie DVD in the player and select the options that the movie is recorded in.

Halo is 5.1 for sure. Not sure what else is though...
I think you need the optical adapter for the Xbox to get the 5.1 output. Your speakers should then get the digital signal and decode it for all Xbox games that have 5.1 and all DVD's that have 5.1. Make sure to enable 5.1 digital out on your Xbox.

AS for the DVD player I imagine it would be the same route, the optical out. For the PS2 however I am not quite sure.

Hope this helps.

Well I was just reading the thread about halo2 and somebody mentioned how awesome Halo sounds in 5.1. I have gone into the language settings on Matrix Revolutions and picked English 5.1 - is that all I need to do? Do I need to change anything on the pod?

EDIT: Posted as u posted ^^^... I went into the XBOX settings and turned on Dolby Digital and DTS (I have no clue what that is though) then started playing Halo again and heard no difference... wanted to be able to hear the bullets like flying by my head... like I said do I need to set my pod to Dolby Music or Dolby Movie for the 5.1 to work?

yep you only need to set 5.1 on sound setting, the dvd should decode the signal and send it to your speakers... on my computer I know its active because all the channels are getting audio... when 5.1 was not enable I didnt get signals on the sub only on the speakers....

have fun...

Halo's pretty cool in 5.1, my neighbors have it set up with their speakers. I think they use optical out, to their surround reciever, though.

Like i said I think you need to run the optical out from your Xbox to get the 5.1 signal.

Check that grizzle out. I am pretty sure that's what my friend has to get the DD and DTS signal.

...And you're still not getting any DTS or DD audio from games or DVD's?
