WinME and Directx 9.0b

Hey guys, i just installed the Directx 9.0b on an older Dell Computer, pentium 3 I believe, and it is really taking a long time to boot into windows, saying that it is configuring files and then it just sits there forever. I was just wondering if ther is something I can do or if this is normal?

It doesn't sound like that it's normal....how about booting to safe mode and removing it or re-installing an earlier version?

Was it installed as part of a game? I never install DirectX unless I have to. However, I am running a P3 with ME and I have DX 9.0b on my machine.
