Decesions, Decesions...

Hi,

I'm sure this topic has come up before.
I'm building my first system, and can't decide between an AMD or Intel CPU. So far I have this choice : AMD 2700 with Asus A7N8X-E deluxe motherboard or Intel P4 2.8 C with Asus P4P800 motherboard. I've chosen an ATI Radeon9600 128mb video card, 80Gig maxtor hard drive with XP Pro and I'd like 512 mb ram. Wich is the better deal ? I want something fast and reliable, 8x AGP, good sound, good LAN and ability to multitask. And most of all I don't want to be disapointed by making the wrong decesion.

Any suggestions appreciated...

Thanks.....

Is the "Intel P4 2.8 C" the Celeron chip? if so you woukld be better off with the AMD ayatem. The XP 2700 has more on-die cache resulting in a faster processor. It will be more suited to playing games and whatever else you toss at it.

(Plus, the AMD CPU's are less expensive, more bang for the buck)

Most people here will tell you to go with the AMD system. I will too as that's what I have and it's a good board.

The Intel P4 2.8 "C" is the 800 mhz FSB version of there cpu.. its the good Intel chip.

Personally I would go the Intel route. the P4P800 is a rock solid board and you'll get awesome performance out of the Intel CPU and the Asus motherboard.

Seriously, either is fine for their price. I doubt you'd be able to see a difference between the two unless you do encoding etc.

Thanks Sixpac_XP!

In that case, as someone else said, you'd be hard pressed to see a performance difference between the two. They would both be great systems and you won't be dissapointed in your decision. I'd go AMD, but that's my preference.

(Alot of help, aren't we.)

i would also throw up a vote for the intel the 2.8 C is about comparable to the 3000+ (the ratings are based on the 533 bus cpu's) and for the multitasking you're talking about the hyperthreading will help out a bit its hard to tell if you will notice a significant difference or not but If its not gonna mean you stop eating to pay for it then i'd go with it

My vote goes to the AMD set up. My last few systems have been AMD. I love them. I have never really had problems with then yet(knock on woo). AMD more bang for the buck. But really is either is good. I prefer AMD.

How does neither sound

That intel chip will run you around 165-175$, the 2700+ goes for around 100$. If you spent the same on the AMD as you were planning on for the Intel you could turn around and purchase a Athlon 64 2800+ for around 175$ or even go for a Athlon XP 3200+ and keep your mobo selection.
