OC'd 2500+, should I swap DDR333 for DDR400?
Just to see what would happen, I overclocked my 2500+ to 3200+ and it appears to be stable!! I ran a bunch of tests and my computer didn't hang once over the past 2 days.
However, since I didn't think I would be able to get it to run on a 200FSB, I only bought DDR333 RAM. Should I just leave it as it is, or should I upgrade to DDR400 RAM just in case? Opinions please.
2500+
Asus A7N8X
Samsung PC2700 DDR333
Asus Geforce4 video card
I will probably run burnintest all night to see what happens. I can play Unreal Tournament with no problems too.

Samsung is decent ram. I wouldn't worry about it unless it crashes or you decide to go even faster. I've had crucial 333 running at 400+ without any issues at all |

I'm running my Corsair XMS PC2700 at 400MHz with 2.5,3,3,7 timings at 2.77volts with no problems at all. If your ram can handle it, don't bother with an upgrade, especially with the price of RAM today getting higher and higher.
I actually ordered some OCZ PC3200 memory in hopes of running tighter timings. I was able to get 2,3,2,7 but it only equated to a less than 1% performance gain in 3dmark01 and about a half a percent gain in '03.
For $280 it wasn't worth it so I returned it.

Okay, I'll probably leave it If it's working, why not? Thanks!

Im thinking to overclock my system too same parts, Asus A7N8X, Barton 2500+ and corsair 2700 memory?
Any advice what options I need to set.. altought surely I will need to buy another HSF to cool down more my processor when I do it.
Im totally new to the overclock scene, what will be the % gain on doing it

Oh, forgot to mention the fan. I did some research and was going to get a Volcano with the duct mod because the theory does make sense, but then I found lots of good reviews on the Vantech Aeroflow and got that one instead. It's a bit louder than most people like, but my CPU temps have been between 37 idle and 39 under full load. Plus I have 3 intake fans, 3 exhaust fans (4 including PS), and rounded cables so lots of good airflow.
As for OC'ing the 2500+, like all others, it's hit and miss. Some people can't get any extra, some like me get lucky and can hit 3200+ right off the bat. I did run some Sandra tests, but didn't keep the results. It did do a lot better, but I wasn't too concerned about exact performance gain, I was happier I saved $165CAN over buying an actual 3200+.
Good luck with your o/c!

I've built several PC's using the 2500+ and all but one were able to overclock to 3200+ speeds. The one that couldn't got to within 80MHz.

but what needs to be changed only the FSB to 200?
I have heard of memory timings?

The best thing to do is start with very relaxed timings. Like 3,3,3,7 and see if the processor can do 200x11. You migh need to increase the voltage to the processor. Once you get it running at 3200+ speeds, then you can start tightening down your memory timings until you figure out what works best for you.
P.S. If you've got more questions, you should probably start your own new thread.

Hi, I also have a problem, my Ram is pretty much generic ram, with 8-3-3-3 timings, and whenever I up the FSB on my processor (amd 2500+) the ram timings go up also and my pc can't handle the ram's increased FSB. I have an asus a7n8x deluxe, and 1 gig of pc 2700, any advice on how to overclock my amd 2500+ without boosting my poor ram as well?
Another question too, why does my memory frequency say 133 (with default cpu and ram timings)? Isn't 2700 suppose to be 333 or 266 or something? Thanks
