Outdoors CD BURNING PROBLEM!!!!

hey i havent been able to burn cds. the two programs i used were windows media player, and whatever comes with xp. When i go into my computer it reads my dvd drive, and reads my cdrw drive as a cd drive. I was wondering if that was suppose to read it as a cdrw drive or not?. anyway when i go into these programs that i use windows media player says i don't have a cd burner, and the xp program just wont let me go past a certain step. Maybe when i put this computer together i didn't plug somethin in right, cause it was my first time building my own computer anyway if u guys could help me out it would be much appreciated thanks

Did this just start happening, or was it like this from the start? Your CDRW should show as such in My Computer. How are the DVD and CDRW connected?

i'm sure it was like this from the start . I just never tried to burn cds up until now. I know i should of tested it but i figurd it would work since it was out of my last computer and worked perfectly, and im not the one who connected the dvd and cdrw. It was my freind and I, and he did that part, and i remember him saying theres a chance he connected something wrong in there, but we figured that it read it as a cd drive it would be fine. Also i dont talk to him much anymore so thats why im asking you guys, but if u could tell me how to figutre out for sure if its right that would be great. btw my mobo is an abit is7-e if that helps also that was a nice run on sentence there lol

Did you install the cd burner software, like Nero, into the new machine?

Also, you may need to go into device manager to make sure the IDE the burner is hooked up to has been set to DMA mode, as it may have defaulted to PIO mode.
