How can I get sound in Wolf3D?

Hey. I'm stuck with an old video card in my machine right now, so I'm using the opportunity to replay some very old games. While I can get Doom to run fine via Doom95, I can't get games like Wolfenstein3D to play with the Adlib/Soundblaster sound. I can play it with the "PC Speaker" through my speakers, but setting it to SB gets me no sound. I'm running WinXP, and I have the integrated sound card on nForce2 boards.

Does anyone know any tricks/sound emulators that would allow me to relive Wolf3D (and later Keens, etc.) in all its glory? Thanks a lot.

If I remember right, Wolf3D uses the little telephone speaker on your mobo, because it just has beeps and whatnot, not actual sounds. You gotta have that before you can hear anything.

Wolf3D has Soundblaster settings. Includes pretty nice music and sound, too. The mobo PC speaker can be played through my speakers, but the SB setting won't.

Try switching to onboard sound, just for kicks. It might work then. You may have to restart and/or physically remove your Sound Blaster to get it to fully work.

I'm using onboard sound... I don't have a soundblaster, that's just what the setting in Wolf3D says.

EDIT: My mistake--I said integrated video card in my original post. I meant sound. Sorry.

Take a look in your BIOS under "Integrated Peripherals" for an option to enable Soundblaster.

I don't know much about the nForce2 boards, but my K7T Pro has this- and it works fine with these old DOS games. If you do have this option, you may need to run the game's setup thingy and assign an IRQ/DMA to get it working properly...

Good luck to 'ya!

Hmm... thanks for the suggestion. Checked--don't have any kind of option like that in integrated peripherals or anywhere... hmm... I remember an emulator or something that would allow this, or maybe I'm just imagining things.

Well then, you could try DOSBox or VDMSound.

I've heard good things about both, but have never used 'em...

Aero has a good suggestion, I use vdmsound to play (silent hunter 1995 game) on my 2.8 cpu xp system.
