quick! need winxp install help

i need some quick advice about installing windows xp
i need to install without formatting, but i dont want to keep the settings - i figure installing windows over windows will work for now till i get things backed up

i have like 60 gigs of stuff scattered around the place.. here is the question

if i install windows over windows, it overrights all the windows stuff.. so if i put the stuff in a folder just in root or somewhere not a system folder, would it be safe there?

if i move all the files to a non system folder, will it be alright during the windows install

like /files for example

Yes that stuff will be alright.

You should probably know that installing Windows over Windows will probably cause a lot more problems. Remnants of old drivers, patches, and various junk will screw up your computer; believe me.

I had windows 98 and thought it was time to get an upgrade of windows. I went to best buy to purchase winxp. The sale person brought out two different box of winxp. One costing more than the other. I asked what was the different? He said if I had windows already than all I needed to do was upgrade it, meaning install it over the windows that I already have. The other one was for a pc that was being built. So of cause I took the upgrade. And yes I install it over the windows I already have and it works great.
