.mpeg files suddenly being saved as .mps files

I recently started having an issue of trying to save .mpeg or .mpg files from various sites, and while they shows as such when I pass the mouse cursor over them, when the "save as..." screen comes up, the extension is .mps - I have no clue why.

Obviously, some program somewhere has decided to change the extension before it is saved. I can even correct this in the "save as..." box before clicking "save," but it's extremely annoying.

Anyone have a clue why, or how it can be corrected?

I have no clue how it happened, but you might be able to remedy it by visitng 'file types' and fixing (or deleting/re-creating) the types for .mpg and .mpeg:

Open up a folder on your computer, [Tools] menu -> [Folder Options...] -> [File Types] -> MPG

See anything strange in there?
