Kids XP-Mobile question....

Okay, I just have a quick question about the Athlon XP Mobiles....I am planning on buying one and noticed that the 2600+ Mobile is a little different than the 2500+....Which of the two, if you know, is a better overclocker? Yes, I know they are both great, but since they are a little different, a little difference makes a huge difference in terms of OCin....any assistance or references is well-appreciated. If one of these is able to sustain a higher multiplier frequency than the other at 200FSB, then this is what I am looking for. I cannot currently push my RAM much higher than 200FSB with the timings that I want, so I figure I will just automatically put the FSB to 200 and then work from there on the Multiplier....if you know of any sites that have a benchmark/OC test of the new 2600+ please refer me to that, I have yet to find a sufficient one. Thanks...

Spend the extra 10 bucks and get the 2600+. It should easily reach 2.6ghz

check overclockersclub.com they have a lot of threads on Mobiles. Check Mobile 2500+ awsome thread or something like that. Shows some very high OC's

Not all boards can go above a 12.5 X multiplier without mods .

What board do you have? Some NF2 boards can lock out the memory timing so you can fsb and mult oc your proc all you want.

I voted for the 2600+ because thats what I have. However, don't bet on being able to reach 2.6GHz "easily"

I've only build two PC's around 2600+ mobile chips. Mine got to 2.4GHz easy enough (1.7 vcore) but it took a LOT more vcore to get it up to 2.5GHz, and at that level it ran way to hot to keep it there. 2.6GHz I didn't even bother trying because I doubt it would have reached it, I also had it maxed at 12.5x200 (multi's above 12.5 are locked)

My buddies overclocked a bit better than mind did. He was able to reach 2.5GHz with a little less voltage, but it still ran quite hot.

I'd say 2.6GHz stable on air would be more lucky than easy based on my own expierences. Still a much better buy than any non mobile barton however. It will do 3200+ speeds at a very low voltage and run a lot cooler than a non-mobile.

The mobiles are able to withstand way more heat than a normal xp. I've heard that a good vcore increase should go no higher than 10% or the norm to still be safe. I think the mobiles can handle more than 10%.

One thing you gotta understand though is an overclocked CPU is a lot more sensative to heat than one that isn't. A mobile 2600+ at stock speeds will be stable even past 70C whereas that same processor once overclocked to say 2.4-2.6GHz will probably show instability at 60C or even before that. These are my own personal observations.

I once had a PC in a cabinate with the doors opened for ventilation, one day our housekeeper not knowing anybetter shut the doors while the PC was on and running DC projects. By the time I got home an noticed it, the temps of the CPU was well above 70C, but it was still running and had not locked up. I've yet to see an OCed processor (especially one OCed as high as these mobiles are going) get even close to that temp and remain stable.

I am running an Abit NF7-S v2.0...it has no problem OCin and just to be safe, I will be upgrading the onboard cooling fan to an all copper one by TT, probably....also, I am using an Aero TMD Fan that keeps my 2100+@2.2GHz running below 40C....using AS3 ofcourse, heh....also, have proper setup for in/out fans on my case....7 fans total and the normal case temp is around 22-25C now that summers here, heh....pretty good setup and very good OCin board...shouldn't have any problems, I've decided to go ahead and order the 2600+ Mobile Barton and I should get it here later on this week....I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning to see if prices drop at all...we'll see, heh....thanks for all the input, I'll let you guys know what I push it to with the cooling I currently have...thanks...

Well, I have a AXP-M 2400+ and with a Vantec Aeroflow it hit 2.4 GHZ with 1.8 Volts. The amazing part is that it runs MUCH cooler then my old AXP 2500+ @ 2.2 ghz with 1.75 volts. When I put my hand on the hsf now it still feels cool(almost cold) but with the 2500+ @ 2.2 I felt it warm.
