it's really hard to say nowadays...because Dell sells em so cheap...hard to convince someone to pay much for a used comp.

Maybe offer it at $400 and see if anyone bites...pointing out to them it has a cd burner and DVD etc

John is right, when you sell something always go high and then work your way down. Because you never know who could desperatly use those parts.

Cheers

IMO, you'd probably get more return from your original investment(s) if you uninstalled all the S/W (except the OS) for your personal re-use once you get your next PC. Most used PC buyers really do not appreciate the cost of the software you include, and tend to base what they will pay for the unit solely on the hardware.
If you can get $300-350, sans software, I think you'd be doing quite well.

If you can't get that much for it, you may want to consider cannibalizing it for those items you can re-use for your next PC.

Not sure who you communicated with at MS, but over the years I have sold many MS OSes (W95, W98, WMe, W2K), Office 95, Office97 Pro and Office 2000 Pro. I provided the buyer(s) with a written letter of sale/transfer license. None of my buyers has ever come back to me and said they had any problem registering their software, or obtaining support from MS. The above would pertain to your leaving the software on the PC when you sold it... in effect, you are "selling/transfering" the software to someone else.

Re keeping the software and re-using on a new PC... I can't imagine why you can't -- since you are the original licensee -- remove your licensed software from your old PC prior to sale, and then reinstall your licensed software on your new PC. You have not violated single user restrictions, and you have not transfered license.

my suggestion is to take the 2 extra sticks of ram out and sell them seperratley for mabey 80-100 each IMO 768 is overkill for this system i mean seriously what game can you run a a 500mhz cpu and a voodoo3 that will need mor than 256 mb

then sell the system for 250 to 300 or so (without the monitor kb/mouse) and sell the monitor for 50-100 depending on the condition you might want to sell it locally too since people will tend to pay less if they have to pay to ship such a big item (or mabey save it for another build) you can either keep the kb& mouse or throw then in free with the laptop but you probobally wouldnt be able to sell them for much

HeadBand is right except I would go one step further and part out the whole box.
