DVD burner

Ok, heres the deal. Someone at work is having problems with a Lite On 411 DVD +/- R/RW drive. He was trying different firmware to make it burn faster (basically flashed it to an 811 to let it burn at 8x). When he tried to restore the old firmware he found that he'd backed up the wrong one (he has a few Lite-On DVD burners), so from what I gathered he couldnt go back to the updated one, or the old one. My question is, is there a way to restore the eprom data and/or the firmware, and is there a way to re-calibrate the drive, or does the drive have an auto calibration feature?

The old firmware he can get from www.liteonit.com

But I believe each drive has its own unique eeprom (please correct me if I am wrong) so I'm not quite sure of what he can do about that.

What's wrong with just keeping the burner as a 811? Does it not work?

well, as far as the unique eprom data, I do believe you're right there, but we're not too totally sure about that although its more than likely true.

I'm not sure why he didnt keep it as an 811, but I think it worked like that. He's a tinkerer like me, and a more brave one too..

I have the drive now, so I'll try a few things to see what it does. Right now Windows detects it ok, but the drives light just sits there and flashes.

I think he may have flashed the eeprom incorrectly if it just sits there and flashes on its own. Sorry to say this, but it may be a dead drive.

[EDIT]: BTW, did he try the eeproms given to him by the other members on the other forum? I did Zebra's mod too and have a copy of my backed up eeprom, if he wants it I can send him the 411 eeprom and he can give it a try.

Well, he backed up the wrong eeprom by mistake, so he dosent have a copy to restore it.

He tried the eeproms that were sent to him, and I also tried them. I've tried re-flashing the firmware itself too with no luck.
