Excel help please...

I'm working on this spreadsheet for my dad, and I am having trouble with the RANK function. I also seem to have trouble adding certain cells together. I suspect that these 2 problems are related, because I am capable of adding cells, not much more than that, but I can add cells.

Is it possible to add the ranked cells? In other words, if I have 2 columns, each one with numbers in them formulated by the RANK function, can these numbers be added together? Are they a value?

I'm sure this isn't enough info to help, but I know little of Excel and I will of course give as much info as I can as questions are asked.

You want to add together two totals is what you're saying?

=sum(cell_one:cell_two) should work.

or it could be (cell_one,cell_two)... Now I forget...

I want to add cells with a 'rank'. I have cells with this formula in it... (This formula is in cell K4) =RANK(J4,$J$4:$J$18,1) and I want to know if the rank of the cell can be added together. I don't even know if this is my problem.

This formula is in 5 columns, I have checked and checked several times, and it seems to me that there is no reason that this formula should work in some columns and not others.

yes. THe ranking results can be added. I copied your formula into my own spreadsheet and created a list in J4-J18. I then tried to add two of the resulting ranks and did so with no problem.
