What is the best Antivirus Software?

I currently have Norton Antivirus but i don't really like it that much. It is ok, but i was wondering if there is anything better out there. I would like something that would give me great protection and use minimal resources. The price really doesn't matter that much to me.

thanks

I've used Norton for the last several years. I'm happy with it. I gave up on McAfee because it slowed everything down so bad and caused momentary pauses when opening files and programs. The other one that will come highly recommended is AVG. [free]

If your smart, you don't need a virus scanner. I've been virus scanner free for almost 4 months now. I check once a week using an online virus scanner. I have never had a virus. The virus scanner I did use before was AVG mentioned above, it takes the least amount of system resources, and still has a large virus definition database. Although I still like the speed increase of not having a virus scanner.

Nortons gets my vote as the best but AVG is top notch as well and is free.

Stick with Nortons since you already have it. If you want to try something else, go get AVG. It wont cost you anything.

I install AVG on many peoples computers and have great success.

I do use a virus scanner, and I have been virus free since 1989 I've also been on-line since '89 (starting with BBS services), and receiving/sending email throughout nearly all that time period.

Over the years I've run mostly McAfee and Norton... have tried a few others. IMO, NAV2004 is trouble, as is current McAFee (ongoing issues at work with McAfee 'frameworkservice.exe" taking 100% of system resources for extended periods of time... waiting for a patch).

Currently use NAV2003 on our three home PCs. Just keep the defs updated and any antivirus program is very good, but NONE is infallible. Don't do stupid things (e.g., opening any of several types of attachments, clicking embedded links, etc.) and do use an AV program.

Kasperksy Antivirus gets my vote. Been clean from viruses for a long time now. Used to use Norton Antivirus, but after realizing I had viruses even with Norton in my machine totally updated I changed Antivirus to Kasperksy. Can't be more happy. Its excellent. I dont like Norton. I think its too weak, and over-rated.

Best FREE Antivirus program: AVG Antivirus

I've been using AVG for quite some time now and its actually found and fixed problems on my home PC quicker than the coporate one on my works laptop

And as for not using one.... You don't have a GF like mine who seems to find a new virus each day to try and download and infect my little home network

TIA,

Don't know about the charge to renew a subscription. You can though find that out easily here. The Antivirus updates itself almost everyday. New definitions are available almost everyday as well. The only thing though that I don't like about Kaspersky is its way to update. I found it to be clumsy and slow. Thats my only negative point to this Antivirus though. If I were you I would check this program out. Its amazing. Also check out this site for more information and reviews as well as tests of many different Antivirus program (Kaspersky gets the award of best Antivirus program of all in the test, most complete and great all around Antivirus available) HTH's you

Trend Micro gets my vote, easy to update and more often than not they get the jump on NAV for virus defs. AVG if you want a free AV, program.
