Slow XP logon due to network??

I have a home network setup and am using a Belkin 4-port router to share a printer and files. The computer that is directly connected to the router takes exactly 2 minutes from the XP user logon screen to finish loading the start up programs in windows.

If I place the mouse on the task bar it changes to the hour glass. The time also pauses and once the start up programs begin loading it changes back to the regular time. i.e. If I turn on my computer at 4:18 pm, nothing will happen for two min. then once the start up programs begin loading, the time will change to 4:20.

And when I unplug the ethernet cable from my tower, the comp loads up normally.

I only have NAV, pop-up stopper, zone alarm, MBM5, and Norton system doctor setup to start on start up.

The other computer networked to the one I'm having trouble with loads windows quickly.

What can I do to have it load normally? Is this typical of a network setup? Any help is much appreciated.

[EDIT]: System specs may be of some help...

try this:

Start / Run / type - cmd

at the dos prompt type - ipconfig

write those numbers down. then close window.
right-click network neighborhood / goto properties / then right-click network adaptor / properties.

in the tcp-ip settings input those numbers.

should be something like:

IP: 192.168.0.10
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (Gateway is your router's IP address).

Not typical to a network.

Might be spyware/adware related.

Get Lavasoft's Ad-aware http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10...age&tag=button

Run the update, then let it do the scan.

Next step is to run MSCONFIG and disable the STARTUP items. Re-enable one at a time while rebooting between each. This way you may be able to determine if one is causing a problem.

As a side note, ensure you do not have many files on your Desktop because this can cause problems too.

I did a scan with updated ad-aware and spybot definitions. And always do every week. I Also did a NAV scan as well. None of them found anthing. I only have about 10 shortcuts on my desktop, dont like to keep many as it makes it cluttered and hard for me to find stuff.

I will do the msconfig thing and let you know. Thanks for the reply.

BTW, the slow boot doesn't happen when I unplug the ethernet cable from the mobo's ethernet port.

The 10 documents would normally not be a problem. If it were hundreds or thousands then it could be a problem (especially if using Roaming Profiles).

Ok, I've found the problem. I did as DVNT1 suggested and ran msconfig. I began checking one startup program at a time and ran into a problem with "ccApp" which I found loads NAV. So its norton that's causing all the trouble. What can I do about this?
