How do i change my IP address?

OK well i've been tryin to connect to a sit and i cant because the site has blocked some ip's for some reason and i'm wondering if i can switch my ip to connect to the site again?

I'm running windows 2000 using comcast cable and have a lynksys router. Is this enough info to help me figure out how to change ip? Thanks in advance.

It depends on Comcast's setup. This 'site' that blocked your IP address has blocked the WAN (or external) IP address that Comcast assigns you.

Most likely you are on a dynamic IP address (changes every so often) and depending on how often Comcast changes those IP's will determine when the IP you are assigned will change again. Pending on the block at this 'site', they might not have blocked the IP address, but rather the entire domain or range that Comcast carries.

You can attempt to force a change in WAN IP address assignment by disconnecting the power to your modem for a period of 6 hours. I can't guarantee this will work though.

there are also programs that mask your IP to the outside world but the name escapes me at the moment. basically everone else will see a different IP than your real one.

Welcome to TechIMO!!

You need to use a proxy server.

http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html

Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > tick Proxy Server and fill in the the IP and port settings.

May have to play around with different proxies unti you find one that works.

thanks for replies. Bill i tried about 10 different proxies and non worked. The site i can log onto is fine http://www.battle.net/forums/board.a...ladder-trading but when i try to reply or make a new topic or log in i get cannot be displayed page. I just wanted to know if i can change my IP address and see if they recoginze it. This is what was posted by someone on that board that was a tech for verizon.

"If you're reading this but unable to reply to it due to a "page cannot be displayed" when you attempt to log in as so many of you are experiencing right now, I can tell you that it is an IP issue. I had the exact same problem when I got here this morning. Apparently, Bliz has blocked access from scores of IP addresses. Simply deleting cookies and temp internet files will not work (as I'm sure you know by now). If you have a static IP (business accounts and some cable providers), you are also out of luck until Bliz lifts the ban. If you have a dynamic IP (DSL and most home broadband connections), simply keep disconnecting and reconnecting until you can successfully log in with a new IP. If you are on a home network using a router, you will have to access your router config and do your disconnecting and reconnecting from there. "

I just dont know if comcast is dynamic or static. Should i just call them and see if they can change my ip?
