Systems Network Cable Disconnecte in XP

Good morning everybody,

I have recently purchased an ASUS A7NX-E- Deluxe motherboard and finally have nearly everything runing in XP Pro. My problem is in the networking features of the Gigabit LAN portion of the motherboard. I am getting a network cable unplugged Red X in the system tray for the nVidia nForce MCP networking controller. I have access to the Internet, but cannot connect to my other PC. It does not see it in Network Neighborhood.

I have the latest drivers installed and no errors in the hardware device manager.

I am suspecting the gigabit lan connector on the motherboard (no lights). Any ideas?

Hi!
Welcome to techimo!!!

2 things, Did you try to reset the CMOS in the motherboard?

Does your motherboard have 2 ethernet ports? 1x connecting to the internet (which works for you, and the 1x is for the gigabit networking? If your trying to connect to the other PC on your network with an ethernet cable, make sure its a ethernet crossover cable. (if your directly connecting the PCs by ethernet --> ethernet port. Unless you are using a hub to connect the to pcs right now.
in device manager does it show any conflicts in the network category?

thanks, paul

A crossover cable!!!! Aiiiigggghhhh!!!!

Good grief...I've been trying with my tried and proved "straight through" cat 5 cables and can't get squat! I'm running out to the store to get one!

I'll let you know Paul, but thanks for the heads up on the cable...that may just do the trick....

BTW...I am using the gigabit port to share my ICS connection, so I've got my fingers crossed...pun intended!
