Codec problem!

I'm so confused with some footages that I have download from the net that requires to run on certain and specfic codecs. Some needs divX and some needs XviD etc etc.
I'm downloading the latest codecs available and some of my footages still won't work. Why? Is it because of the codec?

I normally get with no sound with pictures, no pictures with sound on and no pictures with no sound at all. And quite a number of footages are unable to run/play.

In my computer, I use Real-player, DiVx, XviD (about to download this one), WinPlayer,Xingmpeg and a few other media program. I'm affraid that installing new codecs may cause a crash on my neither my computer nor my footages. And is it safe having all sorts of codecs? Help needed, what's going on here?

I have a problem with some video. I dont know if its the codec or if its just the movie, but I will go attempt to watch it and the frames will jerk up and down...
Does anyone have a clue why that is caused?

Another note, if it still didn't work with Windows Media Player, try using Media Player Classic that is included in that codec pack.

Here, get Gspot.

It's a freeware utility designed exactly for this purpose. It'll tell you what codec was used to encode the file, what codec you need to play the file, and if you currently have that codec installed or not.

One of the true freeware programs out there. Get it.

Oh. Well. Nevermind then.

However, might want to note that Gspot is currently on version 2.5.

I recomend this codec. It has everything in it in the Kazaa Lite codec pack above, but is more friendly to video editing software. When I had the KL codecs, it kept crashing WMM. After I installed Ace Mega Codec Pro, everything was fine. PLus it comes with BS Player, which is the best player you can get.
