Can I do a clean install?

I have a preacher freind whose church building was vandalized. In the insurance settlement he got new computers, and gave me one of his old ones. It is much nicer than my old one. It has Win 2k pro. The restore CD was trashed during the break in, and it came with no original OS disk. Its acting a little flaky, and I would like to do a clean install (which I've done many times under 98se). I have the win 2k COA. Any way to reinstall 2k? Should I just wipe it and install 98se (have disk)?

Thanks for any advice,
Rick

if you don't have an actual w2k cd, you aren't going to be able to do the re-install of course.

so if you can't borrow one from someone, you're pretty much left with installing win98 or whatever OS you happen to own.

If I do reformat and install 98, is there an easy way to save all the device drivers that are installed and working now? Will they even work under 98?

win98 uses different device drivers and aren't compatible with w2k drivers for the most part. what i recommend you try to do is before you reformat & reinstall, search on the internet & download the necessary hardware drivers (motherboard, video, network, etc) and burn them to cd.

is this machine a branded one? (dell, gateway, compaq, etc)
