haha thanks...

what happened was the CD drive wasnt set as the first boot device or something or other, so I got him to set it to it...

after that however I tried to reformat with him, and 2 files were missing

- NTLDR
- NTDETECT.COM

I figured out how to copy them from the CD to the computer, and it fixed that problem, but after that trying to boot up, it said that hal.dll was missing and wouldnt start windows...

I couldnt find the file on a windows xp cd, so I sent the file to him from my computer over to another computer in the house and he put it on a floppy disk and tried inserting it into the problemed computer, but it would not copy to the computer from the A:\ drive, it just said access denied...

does anyone have any suggestions on this?

also, we tried re installing windows, but it said we need a windows 98, nt, me or 2000 professional CD, so that looks to be out of the question...eh?

thanks

You purchased Windows XP upgrade. You will need a previous version of windows to complete the installation.
