I'm playing around with streaming audio and video. I'm using XP w/IE. I'm not anybody's expert, but I've found some interest things I'd like to share. Apparently, the streaming file is located in my PC as: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. You have to go into Folder Options and SHOW ALL FILES to find this. Bookmark it when you find it. It'll make your life much easier down the line. Aslo, to the end of that string when you find it you might want to add \Content.IE5 and Bookmark that also. This gives those little folders know one knows are about. But the first is all you need to find the file.
When the steaming begins or the files appears to be fully downloaded, I got to the Temp Internet Files and ARRANGE by either TYPE or Last ACCESSED. Type seems to be easier. Find the file and copy and paste it to another folder.
What file are you looking for? It depends what it's being streamed to. It may be a Windows Media file. It may be a Real Media file. It may be an mepg or something else.
Sometimes the file is actually a full stand alone file. You can do what you want with these. Sometimes the file is actually a shortcut to the server. These might be like a .ram But these things still have use. Instead of accessing the files one by one at the site, you can actually collect these up and put them in a playlist on the correct player. As long as the site still has the file, it'll play. This gives you an easier time to play around with the file to covert it to something more permanent like an mp3.
I've tried capturing streaming audio directly to mp3. Sometimes the quality isn't so good. Quite often, I have to record that stream to an audio cassette. I then capture the audio cassette version to mp3. The results are much better.
I like a lot of out of print music. I just happened to stumble on a site that had a lot of Real Media streaming. Some of the stream was RAM. Some was RM. The RM was able to be burned directly to CD using Real Player. The process is quicker than iTunes!
