Systems unable to load windows xp to new hd

wat up im new here and need help i have a 333 celeron compaq presario with 64mb of memory and i just replaced the old hd(an old big foot tx 6gb long hd) with a new maxtor 40gb hd. I didnt partition the new hd right and it didnt have the right amount of space on the hd when i finish the installtion so i repartitioned it and i got the famous ntldr is missing error i used fixboot then i received disk read error. Im confused and ready to take a hammer and smash the pc like that man did on the verzion commerial. Please help before i take my wrath out on the pc.

i wouldnt use windows XP with 64 meg of memory, you wont go anywhere with that

im not trying to thread crap im just saying

i'd started from the very beginning again and just reinstall. during the XP setup make sure you delete all the exisiting partitions before you proceed.

also you'll need to add more memory...64mb isn't going to be nearly enough if expect to do anything more than surfing the net on that machine.

thanks for the replys im gonna save up some cash for some more memory but do you guys thinks its possiable to run xp on my machine. everytime i restart and delete the partitions and reinstall
xp it doesnt boot up from the hd and the hd is fine i did every test known to man still no good what i dont understand is what would be a good way to partition this drive i dont understand how much to partition(s) i just want 1 partition for xp and another for my games and music. how much should i use for xp and my other partition(i have 40gb drive) thanks again
