whats going on????? NEED HELP!!!

ok i was cleaning up a computer for a friend. standard stuff adaware spybot

I decided to run system mechanic and clean up some stuff junk files bad shortcuts etc... i restarted the system and now all that comes up is a black screen with the mouse curser what gives??

i cant start in any of the modes the same thing happens everytime.

its running windows XP

turns out the MoBo is messed up anyway. they got me here to look at it cause it wont power up. well i have to unplug it from the MoBo and plug it back in again to get it to cut on.

probably.. this was an HP...it looks like they are gonna be wanting me to build a new system. this one has lasted like 3 years so its about time for an upgrade

didnt u say the mobo was messed up??

did u check for swollen/bursted capacitors on the mobo??

havent found any.. .

the reason i said it was messed up was because i have to keep turning it on this way.

u tried stripping off all the pci cards and drives to see if it boots correctly that way?

and/or...take the power switch off of the mobo connectors and just try it by shorting the connectors with a jumper or very carefully with a screwdriver..to find out if the power switch itself culd be bad.

i stripped everything down and now it it wont even cut on the way it was

everything spins up just nothing on screen and the keyboard lights up. but never cuts off
