tight vnc through firewall help

I'm trying to set up tight vnc from my computer to my mom's computer so I can help her with computer problems.

We both have windows xp home. I have a smc router with a firewall and she has free zonealarm.

I read something about opening port 5900 on both firewalls. Is this true?

If it is then free zonealarm supposedly doesn't allow you to do that.

How would I open the port on my firewall if it's needed?

Any help would be appreciated.

RealVNC uses 5900 - it is only an assumption that TightVNC uses the same. You may look at a program called ActivePorts (http://www.webattack.com/get/activeports.shtml). This is an easy utility to tell what ports are active for different programs. Or, use the netstat command if you are running a Windows platform (from a command prompt).
