PS2 gun controller with Projection TV

Just bought a big-screen Rear Projection TV.

Also got my PS2. Been thinking of getting a couple of games with the laser-gun. Do they work with the gigantoid TVs? Or do I need a traditional CRT to play em`?

Be careful with the PS2 and rear projection TVs. THey might ruin the tubes because of the frequency the games run at.. thats why I recommend regular tvs.. the gun will work but check with your manufacturer before you play the ps2 on it. It might void your warranty.

If pj tv is LCD it WONT work at all. If its tri gun crt proj it will but may damage it. If its newer-its most likely a 3 TFT L.C.D. (red Green Blue) assembly.

Thanks for all the replies.

To be specific, it`s this one:

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp...odel=PT-53WX53

Would that just be the gun games that I should stay away from, or all PS2 stuff?

" Diagonal Screen Size (inches) 53

Aspect Ratio 16:9 (Widescreen)

CRT Type 7" Diagonal

Lines of Resolution 850 "

"Would that just be the gun games that I should stay away from, or all PS2 stuff?"

ALL OF'em. Any game will ruin that type. Its the older designed CRT model. (old tech, not old tv) CRT's offer lots of brightenss in middle-only 40% gets to edges. WIthout tricks that is. Now thats reason #1 they are dying out. #2 SCREEN BURN in. Your games static stuff liek health will burn that little 7' crt bigtime. Unless you like seeing health meters and such-I wouldnt advise this on crt powered pj. NOW if it were l.c.d. everything but the gun would be o.k. Since the pixel is on -or off, no burn in as no Cathode Ray Tube. #3 is cause the lcd uses a bulb that can be replaced. CRT-its the hole tube gotta go and usually cost around $1000 for a 7" one.

Roger.

Thanks for the answers. I`ll cease and desist PS2 operations on the big-screen. You guys just saved me a thousand dollars.

Now, feeding into that thread, I also have a computer hooked up to it via RCA jacks, and use it to watch DVDs. is that a problem also?

Glad to help.

no harm watching dvd's, that will be fine. At that point its just a movie. All motion pic and even with motion blurr (tv feature)hole nine yards. Just dont have the menue screen up all the time, the remote window or whatever. You know full screen the output. What video card ya have. Can you make whatever is windowed play full screen over tv out? ATI's do it-Im pretty sure nvida too but not familiar with their settings for tv output. Basically its a small VERY bright high res 7"(for its size) crt mon. BUT cause of that its sensitive to still pics or objects. Like health bar- or menues up all the time. Like the old crts pc mons used to subject too easily burinign pic in. Same thing here.
