Misc DVD+RW Question (simple)

Hi everybody!

Can DVD+RW disks created under Adaptec's software be read in older Toshiba 16x DVD drives? I guess a more generic question is, like a multiread CD-ROM drive, do you need a special drive to read DVD+RW?

Thanks
Dave

In general any DVD rom should work fine. but.....

I don’t think there is any easy way to tell if any of the burnable DVDs will work without trying it. Only time I have had trouble with a burnable format, +,-,r,rw is with my old school DVD rom that came with a computer back in the middle or later nineties, it cant handle any burnable format. In general, if it can support one burnable format you should be in luck unless it just advertises compatibility with only one format. My college was very smart when they bought new dells last year that can only handle the + format.

I was not able to read a DVD-RW in my DEC 16x DVD-ROM drive until I upgraded the firmware. The firmware fix was specifically to enable the ability to read multi-session DVD±RWs, but once I flashed it, I was able to read these discs.
