Kids Windows XP - No buffer space available

After a couple of days uptime on my WinXP SP1 machine, with all the latest Windows update patches all networking is lost, and anything i try to do reports back with "error: no buffer space available".

This happened last nite for the fourth time, and while i was half asleep, i think i was able to ping, but nothing else. No web sites, no telnet, no ssh, no ICQ, Yahoo, IRC, nothing...

To top it off, i can't find much info on google about it either, so i was hoping someone here had a clue.

Does Windoze have some log file somewhere that every little detail of windows' operation gets logged into, so i can find this exact error somewhere? Nothing crashed, so it won't have an event log, i don't think.

Any help is welcome!! Thanks in advance

Well from my googling around it seems to happen to some people with to many IRC style programs running for extender periods of time.

well here's the thing.. i previously had Win2000, with the following apps running 24 hours a day:

- Norton Antivirus
- ZoneAlarm
- Windows Uptime
- MSN Messenger
- Yahoo! Messenger
- ICQ Pro
- PCAlert 4 (mobo temperature reporting etc...)
- DNET client
- MSI Live Update
- Usually a couple of IE windows too.

I then had a hard drive crash, but had all my installs backed up apart from ICQ and ZoneAlarm. I installed WinXP on my new hard drive, and installed everything i had, i also downloaded new copies of ICQ and ZoneAlarm.

This problem has been happening ever since i upgraded to WinXP.

Also, on some other forum posts i found, one guy listed everything he runs all the time, and another guy replied saying "the only program we both run is IE, and i still get this problem, even though we don't run any of the same programs".

confusing, eh?

downloading now... i'll edit this post or add a new one when i've installed and run ad-aware...

i'm not gonna bother with spybot, purely cos i haven't heard of it. I'm sure it's very good though.

ok... i've now run ad-aware, and all it's discovered is Cydoor, plus lots of cached ads for it. I think this could be the ones displayed in the ICQ windows, but i'm not sure. I removed them anyway.

It also found a few tracking cookies, but everyone has them. Again though, i removed them.

any more ideas?? I don't know if this is still happening, but as soon as it does, i'll reboot and post on here again.
