5200 vs 4600 ti

I have a friend trying to play city of heros...its an online super hero game still in beta.

He runs a 2GHz celeron, 768 pc100 and a 5200 card with 128MB ddr. He never has really been a gamer so this system suits him fine....or it did. His performance in the game is just brutal. I have a 4600 in my wifes computer just laying around collecting email dust. Would you think that card would give his machine a good performance boost or is it a waste of time?

I'm sure he will see a nice performance increase. The 5200 is basically just an updated GF4 MX440. But then, the Celeron is probably holding him back too.

Ok here are the test results from before and after the swap.
3d mark 01
5200:2711
4600: 4036

So he did get a nice performance increase.....on an interesting sidenote my wifes machine that I built for her a month ago:

1.7GHz celeron
256MB pc2100
Biostar MB

This rig got 5945 with the 4600 and 4900 withe the 5200. I knew DDR ram was good but really did not think it would make that much of a difference....especially considering her cpu is slower.

Wow.....that's horrible for 3dMark2001 IMO. Sure, my proc is a 3200+ and I run my 128MB Ti 4200 at 290/535 and the last time I checked with the latest drivers I got 12000-ish (used to be almost 13k but driver updates lowered it drastically). Anyone else think the same way?

Make sure AA and whatnot is off before running the tests. And I'm assuming those numbers are from default settings.

2.0 Celeron
ti4200 128 mg X8
256 mg ddr266 (soon to be upgrading to ddr333 512 mg PNY)
845PE Max MB

3d 2k2001 SE 7800...not bad for setup or is it?

Artic fox: Yeah those are horrible numbers.....but they are also celerons.....and one is running on pc-100. Cant do much worse than that for a gaming rig. The 2GHz machine is tweaked in every possible ay I can tweak it EXCEPT for being o/c in any way. Not enough cooling and last thing I want to do is ruin my vc or his mb.
This is with no aa or af enabled and graphics set at high performance in the nvidia control panel. I do not think anyone would be able to get much more out of the 2GHz machine unless they did o/c.....but I am always open to suggestions.

I ran 01 on my main rig for him to see a semi high end machine score:

p4b 2.66
Gigabyte 8IK-1100
1024 mb kingston 2700
9800 pro 256MB

and that one scored 15760 also with no aa af and graphics set to pperformance.

edit: yes default 3dmark settings

edit2: and a fresh install with the latest nvidia drivers and the latest 4in 1's.

My brother has a AMD 2.6 a PC Chips MB 512 DDR 333 and a GF4200 128 and he gets near nougth 10000 on 3d mark and it's a 4X card

I have a 2.60 AMD and an MSI MB gig DDR333 and a Radion 9600XT Fireblade and i get 14935 or something like that. but with OCing i get 19000 i think with tweeking you would get a better score.
