upgrade VS. new install

What is the latest thoughts on installing upgrade of software vs a new install. I purchased a new machine for one of our managers and he doesn't want to go to the expense of buying the latest full version of Photoshop (I think). He has the original disk and an upgrade. Which he will have to upgrade again to get the latest version. I'd like to get some imput on this for this matter and future issues.

Thanks!!!

upgrades of windows dont usually go so well.

but with photoshop it may be different.

but couldnt you still do a full install with the upgrade version??

In other words you could still probably uninstall the old version (saving the photos etc to the hard drive) and then put in the new upgrade disk and it will probably ask u to put in the old disk for verification...that way it is still a fresh install.

JP

or if the comp is running well and photoshop is running well then just do the upgrade without doing the uninstall first.

by the way, I am just thinking of general principles....lot of people here use photoshop so they can say more conclusively what to do....but for sure I wouldnt pay for the full version if u can save good $$ with the upgrade

If you are talking about upgrading applications, and not Windows, what's the problem? Just upgrade the application.

If its about Windows then new install is definetely the best option. Upgrading Windows can be a pain.
If its about upgrading other applications (such as Photoshop) I would say its about you. If you want to upgrade then do so, or else do a new install. It doesnt matter really.
