you need to enable ics, the best way to do what your wanting is to get rid of the second nic in the xp system and use a router for the network, a router with a built in switch runs about 40 dollars today and are very good.
doing it this way would be much easer and a whole lot better.

well i dont need to do it for a long period of time.. i just have my uncles pc with 98se on it that im reinstalling and updating stuff on ... and most of the stuff is on my pc... so it would be easer if i can hook it up to mine and just transfer all the stuff....

are you trying to access the web, or just network the two together? Can you see one computer and not the other or neither. are ypu trying DHCP or manuall IP?

well easier way.... hook your uncles computer harddrive to your machine and copy the necesary files.....

unless you want to hook it up to the internet.... then you will need ICS, and set up the other computer to connect to the other ip layer of your second nic where you are using the crossover cable, usually you will need to set up the values manually, IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway....

Machine 1:
IP: 200.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.1.1.1

Machine 2:
IP:200.168.1.2
Subnet:255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.1.1.1

But take a note that windows 95, 98 and ME systems cant browse a win2000 or XP harddrive, you will have to copy files from the XP machine.....

Have fun!!
