Quick power supply question

I've been having problems with the SPDI/F connector on my motherboard recently. It's not ALWAYS done it, just lately. I have installed a few new things in my comp though.

Nobody has ever been able to tell me a solution to my problem, but I think I might know, I just want some seconds to agree.

I have an A7N8X Deluxe mobo running an AMD Athlon 2400+ with 768 megs of ram. I'm also running a 52x24x52x CD-RW, 6x DVD-ROM, 250mb Zip, Floppy, 80gig hard drive, 60 gig hard drive, and a 20 gig hard drive.

I only have a 350watt power supply to run all this. Could the power be the cause of all my problems? I've noticed when I open an app or even turn the light on in my room, the sound cuts out for a second.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out!

Could be, but I'm running pretty much all of that plus a power-hungry video card and 11 fans on a 250W with no problems. I've had as many as five hard drives in here at once too.

Opening an app sounds like it's just losing bandwidth due to hard drive access. My sound will stutter when I move big files or burn a DVD. The lightswitch thing... That's really bizarre.

Sounds like a lot of drives for a 350 watt p/s. You might try unhooking some components and do some other experiments to see if anything makes a difference. Faulty wiring in the room can also affect things. I resolved one customers problem when I discovered she had a lamp on her desk with a short in it. This after she had the pc to 2 repair facilities. Also a UPS might help.

The sad thing is, I have it in a UPS. I think its 350va APC. Like I said - it hasn't always done it, back when I didn't have such a bulky rig - one hard drive, one CD drive, floppy...

It's only the SPDI/F that does it. The Analog connector stays intact 24/7.

You could be having a PSU problem. BTW, what exactly is your problem?

As far as the sound goes, I don't believe that is related to insuffient power. It is probably just noise interference. Check out Amamax.com and get a cheap 500watt PSU for around $11 including shipping. It definitely sounds like you need another PSU anyway considering you have all of that hooked up to a 350.

Mar: the sound going out of my A7N8X's SPDI/F connector keeps cutting in and out. It will cut for a second and then play for a while, then loop.

I have my headset hooked into the analog output and that works fine, never cuts out.

Have you dealt with amamax.com? They have no bad feedback that you know of?

20 bucks for a 550 watt ps is a steal as long as it works.

It is generic, but works great. I have about 70 systems locally sold with the power max PSU in them. Zero problems for 1 1/2 years so far. I like Amamax.com. A very professional business. Sometimes shipping may be a little slow, but if you ever need to call them, you always speak to someone who speaks english good. RMA is easy to get also.

BTW, a 500 watt PSU should be all you will ever need. The extra 50 watts is really unneccessary.
