Problems with 60gig not beening seen in bios

Help. I have a maxtor 60gig that was pulled from a hp unit and was working. I had deleted the partitions and now when i install it on the system that i have now the bios does not reconigize the drive. Also the motherboard on the system that i'm now using, was using a 80 pin wire cable. Now i can only use a 40 pin with the drives that i now have. The jumper setting for the 60gig is correct and now i can't figure out how to get this hard drive to be seen. It's a maxtor diamondmax ata133 60gig.

You still should be able to use the 40 pin (80 wire) cable instead of the 40 pin (40 wire) cable. Try switching cables and make sure that they are correctly seated in the IDE slot. Also, perform an "Autodect IDE drives" or "Autodect hard drives" within BIOS if you have that option.

Has a HD worked in that PC before? You could try to upgrade the BIOS on that motherboard to a newer version.

Also, I've seen some posts where pins broke off in the hard drive.
That would keep it from being detected. Check for broken or loose pins.

Yes i have checked the pins and have just recently updated the bios for the board. I can't remember if i had fdisked and then deleted the partitions on the hp or on the unit i'm using now.

Try downloading PowerMax from Maxtor to see if it picks up the drive. Also, run an fdisk to see if fdisk picks it up.

alright well since it cant be found and u deleted to\he partitions, try using an os disc on the drive alone and format a partition, it mihgt not let u use it if there is no aprtition created, u can use an os disc or the maxtor utility cd.
