It should work, only at the 100 mhz speed.

couldnt agree more..

but sometimes some motherboards are a bit selective and sensitive. good luck.

It depends on the PC133 memory, some of which is NOT backward compatible.

The newer sticks of pc133 are usually NOT backwards compatible...they usually state it on the box etc

older pc133 is usually backwards compatible

Misc a bit succes

thanks alot for the replies. But it still confuses me although I gained 128 Meg of ram. I tried alot of the combinations and it puzzles me:

Originally there were two dimms in it: 2 x 64 MB sdram pc100
So i added a 128 Mb sdram PC100
==> error and still 128 MB
So I removed the second 64MB-dimm and replaced it by the 128 MB-dimm
==> succes!!!! 192 MB
Than I added the 64 MB dimm
==> No result
Than I removed all, put the 128 sd-ram pc100-dim in the first slot and another 128-MB-dim (but this time pc133) in the second
==> Succes!!!! 256 MB
Than I added a 64 MB-dimm in the third slot
==> error :
256 Mb ok
10000000 CA 201-memory error
164-memory size error
(F1:Boot) (F10: computer setup)

Whatever that means

I have a compaq 5000 5wv320 specs ==>(http://www.zdnet.be/doss/2001_03_03/eigenschappen.pdf)
and the motherboard is Via apollo KT133. Specs ==>
(http://www.via.com.tw/en/apollo/KT133.jsp)

Does anyone knows what's going on???

Thx, already

There are so many variables in memory that it is hard to say. Are the two 64mb pieces identical or are they different? Sdram, which is what you have comes in high density and standard [sometimes referred to as low density] also in ECC and non-ECC. Then sometimes different modules just don't like to play together, for no known reason. There are also older 64mb 5 volt dimms that would look like a newer sdram module. All of todays sdram is 3.3 volt.

Compaqs have been very famous for being extremely picky about RAM modules.

Misc

thx again

I guess I'll have to be happy with the 256 MB.

BTW The two 64 MB-dimms are not the same: The first one is

compaq, 64Mb, sync, 100 Mhz, CL3

the second:

Hyundai-Korea 01
PC100U-322-620
HYM7V65801 BTFG-10S BA-A
64MB Sync 100 Mhz CL3

Still it's quite weird that they just don't work in some combinations.

Greetz and thx again
