A hard look at Linux

This is a quite long article about linux.

I encourage everyone to read it as it is very insightfull and pragmatic. You will also learn quite a few things about IT as well (at least I did) so it's definitely a great read.

Read on here.

Good article, albeit a bit long
One thing that bothered me, while granted it is a linux site. It specified only Linux as being cost effective etc etc. While FreeBSD being very closely related and free, and well known to be fast was hardly mentioned.

Dunno, just a comment

I take a "hard look" at it every day at home and at work - and I like what I see.

A good article - I copied it for future reference.

I would rather have both my eyes painfully poked out then to use Linux.

Excellent article. My next box will definitely be devoted to Linux.

It's a nice well rounded article that brings forward some not so obvious points. Granted, FreeBSD is the fastest platform out there, the author mentions it (but tries to avoid a direct comparison).

I would love to run FreeBSD on my server home (and I have done so in the past) but running two linux boxes is so much easier than one linux and one FreeBSD box, and I believe the author implies the benefits of a uniform server/worksation platform along a department as well.
